CATS Online Frequently Asked Questions

I. Will this work for me?

II. What's going wrong?

III. How does this work?

What software do I need?
To view this video you need the RealPlayer G2 from RealNetworks.

What hardware do I need?
There are no hardware requirements other than having sufficient hardware to run the program mentioned above. In general, if you have a Pentium class machine with at least 16M of RAM, or a PowerPC Macintosh with 32M of RAM, you'll be ok. The faster your machine, the better the quality of the video will be. More specific hardware requirements are listed on the download page above.

What kind of Internet connection do I need?
The minimum connection speed to comfortably view the streaming video is 28.8kbps. However, the higher your connection speed is, the better quality video and audio you will recieve.

I start an archived clip and it says "Buffering... 0 seconds" for a long time and never starts playing. What's going on?
This is a problem that has occurred with only a few users. We do not have a solution, but you might try the following things:
  • In RealPlayer go to the Options menu and select Preferences. Select the Connection tab and make sure that the connection speed specified is no faster than your actual connection.
  • Try pausing the player, scrolling forward in the clip, and pressing "play" again.
  • If nothing else works, try upgrading to the latest RealPlayer.

I tried to turn on the live feed, shortly before a meeting was scheduled to start, and I got a message saying the link was outdated or unavailable. What's up?
The live feed is started several minutes before meetings are broadcast. Unfortunately, a time delay is introduced while the previous meeting is being archived. During this time, No live stream is available. Wait a few minutes, and the feed will begin.

Late at night and on weekends I sometimes select "watch CATS live" and get a message saying the link is outdated or unavailable. What's up?
CATS regular broadcast schedule shows the Community Calendar late at night and for much of the weekends. Although normally this programming will be Netcast live, we will sometimes use this time for archiving from tapes or other system maintenance.

How long after a meeting happens will it take before it is archived?
At this time, meetings should be archived within 24 hours. In the future, we hope to archive them much faster, within an hour of the end of the meeting.
